Cameras Lesson Write Up

On Tuesday in my media studies lesson we learnt about the different types of cameras, how to take photographs correctly and effectively and photo composition.

We learnt:

The two main types of cameras. These were; a compact/digital camera, digital SLR camera.

Digital SLR camera:

A digital SLR camera is a digital single-lens reflex camera. It is a is a digital camera that uses a mechanical mirror system and pentaprism to direct light from the lens to an optical viewfinder on the back of the camera.

We also learnt the important settings which feautred on a digital SLR camera.

Auto:

TV- Time Value - This setting is used for determining a long shutter speed or a short shutter. In short, the amount of time the shutter is open for.

AV- Aperture Value - Aperture is the size of the opening in your DSLR's lens which helps determine the amount of light that reaches the camera's sensor.

M- Manual - is determined with what you choose. you can determine the white balance, aperture, shutter speed / exposure with this setting.

Compact digital cameras:

Compact cameras are designed to be small and portable and are particularly suitable for casual and "snapshot" use, thus are also called point-and-shoot camera. The smallest, generally less than 20 mm thick, are described as subcompacts or "ultra-compacts". they are usually designed to be easy to carry, light, and easy to use. Most have a built-in flash usually of low power, sufficient for nearby subjects. To enable lower costs and smaller size, these cameras typically use image sensors with a diagonal of approximately 6 mm, corresponding to crop around 6. This gives them weaker low-light performance, greater depth of field, generally closer focusing ability, and smaller components than cameras using larger sensors.

Aswell as learning what the types of cameras were and there important features. We learnt about the different types of lenses which can be added to the digital SLR camera. We learnt about Telephoto Lens (long lens) and Wide Angle Lens.

Telephoto Lens:

In photography and cinematography, a telephoto lens is a specific construction of a long focal length photographic lens in which the physical length of the lens is shorter than the focal length. In these lenses the optical centre lies outside of its physical construction, such that the entire lens assembly is between the optical centre and the focal plane. A regular lens of a focal length that is longer than what is considered a normal lens is not necessarily a telephoto lens. A telephoto lens has to incorporate a special lens group known as a telephoto group nevertheless, non-telephoto lenses of long focal length are often informally referred to as telephoto lenses. The angle of view created by a telephoto lens is the same as that created by an ordinary lens of the same specified focal length.

Wide Angle Lens:

From a design perspective, a wide angle lens is one lens that projects a substantially larger image circle than would be typical for a standard design lens of the same focal length. This enables either a large tilt and shift movements with a view camera, or lenses with wide fields of view

Final Design - Contents Page

This is my final contents page design which i will be using in my school magazine.
